SHORT YOUTUBE LINK FROM CONCERT

Introduction

We look forward to seeing you in City Hall, Cork for this year’s Cork Pops Orchestra Concerts for Schools Series. Our programme is entitled ‘Blockbuster Classics – Music from the Movies’. It contains some of the great film scores that will be very familiar to primary school audiences, (Harry Potter, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Lord of the Rings); some great classical music used in film (Verdi, Mozart); and some great ‘classics’ of the world of film (The Sound of Music, Charlie Chaplin, Walt Disney.)As always, we encourage audience participation in singing (Happy; Let it go; Edelweiss;), and in tin-whistle playing (Titanic’s My heart will go on; Edelweiss). Our focus this year is on listening, on developing the ability to separate sound and vision in an increasingly visual and multi-media world.

On our web-site www.corkpops.ie , you will find links to exciting Youtube video clips relevant to the concert programme and a Film Fact File. You will also find links from last year’s concert, and to some of our favourite websites explaining the instruments of the orchestra, and general information about the basic elements of music.

The CD includes excerpts from all the pieces to be performed at the concert, – a short narrated introduction precedes each track.

We are delighted to feature the budding young musicians from Music Generation Cork City’s Band Programme, and we thank their director Shauna McCullough for her involvement in the concert. The players come from Greenmount N.S.; Morning Star N.S.; Gaelscoil an Teachlaigh Naofa; Togher Girls’ N.S.; Barrack St. Band Youth Programme. www.musicgenerationcorkcity.com

Thank you for your continued support and hope you will enjoy the concert.
