The orchestra was founded for the occasion of the ‘Tall Ships’ visit to Cork in 1991, and has entertained audiences in concert halls, cathedrals, open air festivals and Tea Dance Parties with artists ranging from Sir James Galway to Tommy Flemming. This gang have never let anything get in the way of a good party! They have played for countless fund raising balls playing a range of music from Strauss to Sinatra and Operatic Favourites to Folk.
Harp Magic
Cork-born harpist, Jean Kelly, has been based in London since she began her third-level studies at the Royal College of Music. She enjoys a busy and diverse career, in classical music, West-End musicals, film scores, traditional and medieval music, – performing on concert harp, folk harps and on electric harp. She has performed for Queen Elizabeth’s historic visit to Ireland; at Windsor Castle for the visit of President Michael D. Higgins; with Paloma Faith on the BBC Proms; on the soundtrack of Lord of the Rings and other movies. www.jeankellyharp.co.uk

George Frederick Handel – Harp Concerto (excerpt)
W.A. Mozart – Concerto for Flute & Harp (excerpt)
Camille Saint-Saens – The Swan
Alphonse Haselmans – La Source
Peter I. Tchaikovsky – Nutcracker Ballet (excerpt)
Music from film: E.T., Star Wars & Harry Potter

D.J Dashka adds a new twist to his very popular music production demonstration, playing Saxophone with the electric harp and his own tracks, on some recent pop hits.
Former Voice of Ireland winner, Keith Hanley appears again, by popular demand, after a hugely successful run in ‘Annie – The Musical’ at Cork Opera House.
Keith has performed on the The Late Late Show and shared the stage The Stunning, The Original RudeBoys, The Coronas, Ryan Sheridan and most recently sang with Gilbert O’Sullivan on his 50th anniversary tour with the RTÉs Concert Orchestra at the Bord Gáis Theatre.
The Cork Pops Orchestra, conducted by Evelyn Grant, has been performing concerts for schools for over twenty five years. Generations of young people have been introduced to the joy of classical music and orchestral instruments through this entertaining, inspiring, and educational experience.
This year’s programme features the instrument that is Ireland’s national emblem – The Harp. Music for concert harp provides a context for social and cultural history of the 18th and 19th century, while the electric harp brings us right in to the 21st century, accompanying songs and dance tracks from recent pop music hits.
Dance music producer DJ Dashka and vocalist Keith Hanley will join forces with our soloist, harpist Jean Kelly. Plenty of audience participation is always encouraged and song lyrics will be projected on the screen.
